St Mary's Church is one of the six Burnham churches, which take their name from the River Burn. The pride of St Mary's Church is the unmatched intricately carved parapet - bring your binoculars! It depicts the head of St John the Baptist being brought to Salome and Herod, armed knights bearing down on St Thomas of Canterbury, and various saints. An 'M' for Mary features on each side and the arms of William Lexham, Lord of the Manor, helpfully dates the parapet to 1500. The church was heavily restored in the 19th century. A stone effigy with his feet upon a dog rests under the tower and may date from the 15th century.
